PAYING THE PRICE vs The Economic Obscurity Trend that Faces Somaliland Citizens

Due to the lack of government’s oversight, statistics, and the lack of pricing regulations of this enclave have resulted a gloom commodity pricing increase and inflation that has shadowed at its highest beak of $32 per sac of rice where areas the same sac was less then $15 a year earlier.

Many Somalilander’s believe that one day a hope will prevail their long awaited dreams. However, it is the women and children who are undisputedly the worst victims of the Somaliland economic tragedy; Uncertainty, fear and the unknown are the enemy and the and the best friend of the people of Somaliland, How long can this continue? can the government of Somaliland bring end to this injustice and inequality to its citizen? Watch Africa's Best Kept Secret

These and more burning questions still remain unanswered, the public is in dire need for accurate and relevant information that is in interest to them

Somaliland has a population of about 3.5-4 billion and more than 60% of the population lives in poverty. The GDP per head is $226 per year. If this figure is divided into 365 days, clearly the citizens of this enclave are living on less than a 1dollar per day, as 30% of this population is in extreme poverty and unemployment is estimated around 7 0%.

The market is regulated by the DOLLAR value in Somaliland, without central banking system which sets the value of the money, few business men have monopolized the import and the export of all commodities and the value of the money is mainly controlled by the private sector which sets its value.

This means the private sector will always be in favor of its interest (in other words what motivates any private business is to get richer as fast as possible).

The Dollar value has dropped by 10% from 1st August 06 to 1st, consequently, the price of the oil has increased up to 50% in this year alone, from half a dollar per liter of gas to $1 per liter of gas, and the same inflation has threatened all basic necessities in live including all types of food and commodities.

On top of this are the neighboring countries refugees that have overcrowded the main cities. Now it’s estimated that around 100,000-200,000 neighboring refugees are scattered
